Exploring the relationship between problematic eating behaviors and bipolar disorder: A study on candidates for bariatric surgery.

Background: Obesity is a major concern in patients with bipolar disorder (BD) and problematic eating behaviors have been suggested to mediate their relationship. The association between problematic eating behaviors and obesity has been studied but limited data have explored the role of BD. We investigated problematic eating behaviors among patients with BD compared with candidates for bariatric surgery (BS), with or without BD, and explored the possible correlations between mood spectrum, impulsivity, body mass index (BMI).

The Incidence of Winged Scapula after Thoracic Cancer Surgery: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Background:  Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, and surgery is still the first treatment of choice in early and locally advanced cases. One of the iatrogenic complications is the serratus anterior palsy, which could lead to a winged scapula (WS). Unfortunately, the incidence of this deficit in thoracic surgery is unclear.

Ecofriendly Preparation of Rosmarinic Acid-poly(vinyl alcohol) Biofilms Using NADES/DES, Ultrasounds and Optimization via a Mixture-Process Design Strategy.

Green chemistry emphasizes the isolation of biologically active compounds from plants and biomass to produce renewable, bio-based products and materials through sustainability and circularity-driven innovation processes. In this work, we have investigated the extraction of rosmarinic acid (RA), a phenolic acid with several biological properties, from aromatic herbs using ultrasounds and low environmental risk natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES). Various solvent mixtures have been investigated, and the parameters influencing the process have been studied by a mixture-process experimental design to identify the optimal RA extraction conditions.

Body Condition of Reproductive and Non-Reproductive Broad-Snouted Caiman Females.

In this work, we calculated the body condition indices, K-Fulton and scaled mass index (SMI), of reproductive and non-reproductive adult females as an indication of stored energy. We considered 87 adult females captured from 2001 to 2018, both reproductive and non-reproductive. The body condition was calculated considering two scenarios: (a) only the weight of the female, and (b) the sum of the weight of the female and the average dry weight of her nest.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by multifactorial etiology and high heritability but can be challenging to be diagnosed, especially in cases presenting subthreshold symptoms with no cognitive or language impairment, which may not be identified until adulthood but may occur in family members of subjects with ASD. This study explores the possible correlation between a genomic imbalance and clinical phenotypes in a family case of a proband with ASD, with subjects presenting full-blown or subthreshold ASD and/or mood disorders. Clinical assessments were carried out by means of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID-5) disorders, Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ), Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R), Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Module 2 (ADOS-2), and Adult Autism Subthreshold Spectrum (AdAS Spectrum).
