Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an extremely rare disorder in children. We report a nine-month-old girl with PG who presented with high-grade fever and rapidly progressive ulcers at the site of a Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) inoculation 2 months after the immunization. Additional small pustules developed on her hand and posterior neck three months after the immunization and rapidly progressed.

Minimally invasive thoracoscopic thymectomy has been indicated in patients with non-invasive thymic epithelial tumors or myasthenia gravis. Sub-xiphoid thymectomy has an advantage of similar surgical view of median sternotomy as compare to lateral approach. Since anterior mediastinum is anatomically limited space, robotic approach with carbon dioxide (CO2) insufflation has led a drastic innovation in thymectomy.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated how preoperative sarcopenia (muscle loss) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) relate to clinical outcomes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients post-surgery, finding these factors can help predict patient prognosis and recovery.
  • - Involving 300 patients with early-stage NSCLC, it measured muscle mass and nutritional status, revealing that those with sarcopenia and low PNI had significantly poorer survival rates and responses to treatment compared to others.
  • - Results emphasized that preoperative sarcopenia combined with low PNI is a strong indicator of poor prognosis regardless of tumor characteristics, highlighting the need for nutritional support in these patients prior to surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • Completion of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) is crucial for improving the prognosis of patients with pathological stage III colorectal cancer (CRC), making it essential to identify those who may not tolerate AC.
  • The study analyzed 161 patients and found that a higher volume of abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) was significantly associated with older age, male sex, hypertension, and a greater likelihood of not completing AC.
  • Results indicated that while the frequency or severity of adverse events was similar between high and low AAC groups, both high AAC and older age were strong predictors of AC incompletion, suggesting that AAC could be a risk marker for assessing patients before starting AC treatment.

Shiikuwasha, a citrus fruit native to Okinawa, Japan, has various cultivation lines with distinct free volatile and non-volatile components. However, the glycosylated volatiles, which are sources of hidden aromas, remain unknown. This study aimed to characterize the chemical profiles of free and glycosidically bound volatile as well as non-volatile components in the mature fruits of six Shiikuwasha cultivation lines: Ishikunibu, Izumi kugani-like, Kaachi, Kohama, Nakamoto seedless, and Ogimi kugani.
