Chiral amino acids (AAs) are essential in metabolism and understanding physiological processes, and they could be used as biomarkers for the diagnosis of different diseases. In this study, chiral Cdots@Van were prepared by postmodifying an achiral Cdots core with vancomycin for recognizing and determining the enantiomeric excess (ee) of tyrosine (Tyr) enantiomers. The fluorescence response of Cdots@Van is based on an "on-off" strategy, with different quenching percentages for d- and l-tyrosine.

Many studies show that ortho-phenylenediamine (OPD) produces an oxidized fluorescent product when exposed to an oxidizing agent that enables the direct or indirect fluorescence detection of a range chemical and biochemical analytes. However, there is no report on this unique optical behavior for other two isomers of phenylenediamine. This study demonstrates that a simple hydrothermal treatment of para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in the presence of sulfuric acid results in the formation of fluorescent N, S-doped carbon dots (CDs) with triple functionalities including the reduction of Au into gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), the stabilization of the produced AuNPs, and the determination of Au concentration through an intrinsic ratiometric fluorescence signal.

Designing and synthesizing one-dimensional porous Pt nanocrystals with unique optical, electrocatalytic, and theranostic properties are gaining lots of attention, especially to overcome the challenges of tumor recurrence and resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. Herein, we represented an interesting report of a one-step and facile strategy for synthesizing multifunctional one-dimensional (1D) porous Pt nanoribbons (PtNRBs) with highly efficient therapeutic effects on cancer cells based on inherent electrocatalytic activity. The critical point in the formation of luminescent porous PtNRBs was the use of human hemoglobin (Hb) as a shape-regulating, stabilizing, and reducing agent with facet-specific domains on which fluorescent platinum nanoclusters at first are aggregated by aggregation-induced emission phenomena (AIE) and then crystallized into contact and penetration twins, as intermediate products, followed by shaping of the final luminescent porous ribbon nanomaterials, owing to oriented attachment association the Ostwald ripening mechanism.
