Eating behaviors are influenced by the integration of gustatory, olfactory, and somatosensory signals, which all contribute to the perception of flavor. Although extensive research has explored the neural correlates of taste in the gustatory cortex (GC), less is known about its role in encoding thermal information. This study investigates the encoding of oral thermal and chemosensory signals by GC neurons compared to the oral somatosensory cortex.

High-trait anxious individuals show positive relationship between HRV and threat vigilance.

Selectively attending to threat-related stimuli in the environment, known as threat bias (TB), is a prominent feature of anxiety. Individuals with high anxiety also tend to show lower heart rate variability (HRV), a reflection of reduced parasympathetic cardiac control. Previous investigations have established associations between low HRV and various attentional processes that facilitate attention to threat, though these have primarily been conducted among non-anxious individuals.

CNS infection with a history of recurrent epistaxis: Streptococcal meningitis as a first presentation of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

An adolescent male with a history of recurrent epistaxis presented with headache and vomiting. Investigations revealed concurrent meningitis as well as the presence of a subarachnoid haemorrhage. Subsequent imaging identified a Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma; a rare but important cause of meningitis that should be considered in the young adult population.

The protective effect of previous COVID-19 infection in a high-prevalence hospital setting.

Objective: To assess the protective effect of previous COVID-19 infection for healthcare workers in a high-prevalence setting.

Method: The COVID-19 antibody and PCR results of 538 healthcare workers on wards with COVID-19 outbreaks from 1 March 2020 to 31 July 2020 were evaluated. Infection rates of the 'previously infected' and 'no evidence of previous infection' groups were compared during second-wave outbreaks between 29 September 2020 and 20 November 2020.
