[Principles of the perioperative management of direct oral anticoagulants].

Within the approved indications direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) are increasingly gaining acceptance instead of vitamin K antagonists (VKA). In the last 12 months 5 guidelines relevant to the perioperative management of DOACs have been updated. This article summarizes the current recommendations for the perioperative management of treatment with DOACs.

The FGF19- fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR4)-βKlotho (KLB) pathway plays an important role in the regulation of bile acid (BA) homeostasis. Aberrant activation of this pathway has been described in the development and progression of a subset of liver cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma, establishing FGFR4 as an attractive therapeutic target for such solid tumors. FGF401 is a highly selective FGFR4 kinase inhibitor being developed for hepatocellular carcinoma, currently in phase I/II clinical studies.

More than just crushing: a prospective pre-post intervention study to reduce drug preparation errors in patients with feeding tubes.

What Is Known And Objectives: Incorrect drug preparation for patients with feeding tubes can result in harm for the patient and the preparing person. Combined intervention programs are effective tools to reduce such preparation errors. However, to date, intervention programs have been mostly tested in hospitals with computerized physician order entry (CPOE), unit-dose systems, or ward-based clinical pharmacists.
