  • The study investigates how smartphone usage impacts various health issues, focusing on hearing ability, tinnitus, balance, falls, and anxiety levels among users.
  • Participants were divided into high smartphone use (HSU) and low smartphone use (LSU) groups, with the HSU group showing significantly worse outcomes in these areas.
  • Findings indicate a strong link between excessive smartphone use and increased problems related to hearing, balance, falls, and anxiety, suggesting that high usage could be a risk factor for these health concerns.

Background: Tumour-induced skeletal muscle wasting in the context of cancer cachexia is a condition with profound implications for patient survival. The loss of muscle mass is a significant clinical obstacle and is linked to reduced tolerance to chemotherapy and increased frailty. Understanding the molecular mechanisms driving muscle atrophy is crucial for the design of new therapeutics.

Our aim was to determine the laboratory parameters that distinguish pseudothrombocytopenia from true thrombocytopenia. A total of 107 patients who were referred to the adult hematology outpatient clinic with thrombocytopenia and subsequently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, immune thrombocytopenia and pseudothrombocytopenia were included in our study. Hemogram parameters on admission, platelet value in the control hemogram and peripheral smear findings were recorded.

Background: 5q Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a progressive, inherited, and severely disabling - yet treatable - motor neuron disease. Although treatment options have evolved in recent years, biomarkers for treatment monitoring and prognosis prediction remain elusive. Here, we investigated the utility of corneal confocal microscopy (CCM), a non-invasive imaging technique to quantify small corneal nerve fibres in vivo, as a diagnostic tool in adult SMA.
