Community knowledge and acceptance of indoor residual spraying for malaria prevention in Mozambique: a qualitative study.

Background: Malaria control remains a leading health challenge in Mozambique. Indoor residual spraying (IRS) is an effective strategy to control malaria transmission, but there are often barriers to reaching the coverage necessary for attaining maximum community protective effect of IRS. Mozambique recorded a high number of household refusals during the 2016 IRS campaign.

'Good health' as a barrier and facilitator to ART initiation: a qualitative study in the era of test-and-treat in Mozambique.

HIV test-and-treat programmes are being implemented throughout sub-Saharan Africa, enrolling HIV-positive clients into antiretroviral treatment (ART) immediately after diagnosis, regardless of clinical stage or CD4 count. This study conducted in Mozambique examined what influenced clients who tested HIV-positive in the context of test-and-treat to make ART initiation decisions. Eighty in-depth interviews with HIV-positive clients and nine focus group discussions with health care workers were completed across 10 health facilities.

Barriers and facilitators to the uptake of Test and Treat in Mozambique: A qualitative study on patient and provider perceptions.

Background: In mid-2016, Mozambique began phased implementation of the 'Test-and-Treat' policy, which enrolls HIV positive clients into antiretroviral treatment (ART) immediately regardless of CD4 cell count or disease stage. Novel insights into barriers and facilitators to ART initiation among healthy clients are needed to improve implementation of Test and Treat.

Innovative dynamic minimally invasive training environment (DynaMITE).

Existing laparoscopic box trainers consist only of static tasks and do not adequately prepare surgeons to navigate the dynamic surgical environment. This paper describes an innovative design using controlled motorized target movements to enhance the training of dynamic motor skills. The prototype was tested using 15 subjects with different surgical experience levels.

Do farmers need relief seed? A methodology for assessing seed systems.

This article outlines a methodology to help agencies better determine whether or not relief seed is needed by farmers affected by disaster. A brief review of current seed needs assessment procedures in southern Somalia and Mozambique illustrates problems of knowing which crops and households are affected, the importance of seed access (not just availability) and the need to plan interventions earlier than at present. The development of a Seed Systems Profile (SSP) is proposed to understand better both the socio-economic and agro-ecological aspects of farmers' seed systems.
