Population aging and multimorbidity challenge health system sustainability, but the role of assistance-related variables rather than individual pathophysiological factors in determining patient outcomes is unclear. To identify assistance-related determinants of sustainable hospital healthcare, all patients hospitalised in an Internal Medicine Unit (n = 1073) were enrolled in a prospective year-long observational study and split 2:1 into a training (n = 726) and a validation subset (n = 347). Demographics, comorbidities, provenance setting, estimates of complexity (cumulative illness rating scale, CIRS: total, comorbidity, CIRS-CI, and severity, CIRS-SI subscores) and intensity of care (nine equivalents of manpower score, NEMS) were analysed at individual and Unit levels along with variations in healthcare personnel as determinants of in-hospital mortality, length of stay and nosocomial infections.

Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are vascular malformations causing seizures and cerebral hemorrhages. Neurological and functional profile can differ from each individual, and the management requires high complexity. The aim of the present case report was to explore the management of neuromuscular scoliosis in a young adult with CCM, comparing the use of a scoliotic brace with a customized adaptive seating system (AdSS).

Background: Seating interventions are part of the postural management program recommended for children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) who are nonambulatory or have difficulty in walking. The lack of validated outcome measures for assessing seating interventions limits access to obtain valid and comparable data internationally.

Objective: To translate the Seated Postural Control Measure (SPCM) into Italian and assess reliability and validity of the translated measure in a population of children with CP.

Manual dexterity has strongly predicted functional independence for daily life activities among children with cerebral palsy (CP). The Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT) is the most widely used assessment tool for exploring manual dexterity in the CP population, though no research has yet examined its psychometric properties for this use. This cross-sectional study explored the validity and internal consistency of the JTHFT in an Italian sample of inpatient and outpatient children with CP aged between 6-18 years (35 girls and 49 boys).
