PRAP study-partial versus radical adrenalectomy in hereditary pheochromocytomas.

Objective: Hereditary pheochromocytoma (hPCC) commonly develops bilaterally, causing adrenal insufficiency when standard treatment, radical adrenalectomy (RA), is performed. Partial adrenalectomy (PA) aims to preserve adrenal function, but with higher recurrence rates. This study compares outcomes of PA versus RA in hPCC.

Improvement in quality of life and psychological symptoms after treatment for primary aldosteronism: Asian Cohort Study.

Background: In addition to increased cardiovascular risk, patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) also suffer from impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychological symptoms. We assessed for changes in HRQoL and depressive symptoms in a cohort of Asian patients with PA, after surgical and medical therapy.

Methods: Thirty-four patients with PA were prospectively recruited and completed questionnaires from 2017 to 2020.

Volumetric evaluation of CT images of adrenal glands in primary aldosteronism.

Objectives: To investigate whether adrenal volumetry provides better agreement with adrenal vein sampling (AVS) than conventional CT for subtyping PA. Furthermore, we evaluated whether the size of this contralateral adrenal was a prognostic factor for clinical outcome after unilateral adrenalectomy.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed volumes of both adrenal glands of the 180 CT-scans (88/180 with unilateral and 92/180 with bilateral disease) of the patients with PA included in the SPARTACUS trial of which 85 also had undergone an AVS.

Aldosterone-potassium ratio predicts primary aldosteronism subtype.

Objective: Prediction models have been developed to predict either unilateral or bilateral primary aldosteronism, and these have not been validated externally. We aimed to develop a simplified score to predict both subtypes and validate this externally.

Methods: Our development cohort was taken from 165 patients who underwent adrenal vein sampling (AVS) in two Asian tertiary centres.

A disease-specific Quality of Life questionnaire for primary aldosteronism.

Objective: To develop a primary aldosteronism (PA) disease-specific Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) questionnaire.

Methods: We included newly diagnosed patients with PA (n = 26), and patients with PA after adrenalectomy (n = 25) or treated with mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (n = 25). According to the guidelines for developing HRQoL questionnaires from the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC): Phase I: systematic literature review followed by focus group meetings with patients (n = 13) resulting in a list of 94 HRQoL issues.
