Purpose: Radical cystoprostatectomy (RC) is one standard treatment for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) in male patients. Another therapeutic option is trimodal therapy. Including the prostate in the trimodal therapy radiation therapy volume is based on MIBC surgical series showing prostatic stromal (PS) involvement.

Background: Despite a growing number of investigations on early diverging fungi, the corresponding lineages have not been as extensively characterized as Ascomycota or Basidiomycota ones. The Mucor genus, pertaining to one of these lineages is not an exception. To this date, a restricted number of Mucor annotated genomes is publicly available and mainly correspond to the reference species, Mucor circinelloides, and to medically relevant species.

Article Synopsis
  • Brown algae, specifically Ectocarpus subulatus, are studied for their ability to tolerate harsh marine environments and their genomic characteristics.
  • The genome of E. subulatus shows signs of viral sequences and retrotransposons, along with changes in gene families linked to stress response and chlorophyll-binding proteins.
  • A significant portion of genes that differ between E. subulatus and another species, E. Ec32, are still of unknown function, suggesting unique mechanisms of stress tolerance that warrant further research.

Metabolomics is a key approach in modern functional genomics and systems biology. Due to the complexity of metabolomics data, the variety of experimental designs, and the multiplicity of bioinformatics tools, providing experimenters with a simple and efficient resource to conduct comprehensive and rigorous analysis of their data is of utmost importance. In 2014, we launched the Workflow4Metabolomics (W4M; http://workflow4metabolomics.

The genome of the filamentous brown alga Ectocarpus was the first to be completely sequenced from within the brown algal group and has served as a key reference genome both for this lineage and for the stramenopiles. We present a complete structural and functional reannotation of the Ectocarpus genome. The large-scale assembly of the Ectocarpus genome was significantly improved and genome-wide gene re-annotation using extensive RNA-seq data improved the structure of 11 108 existing protein-coding genes and added 2030 new loci.
