The response of nutrient status and biochemical processes in (i) Wistar and (ii) spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) rats upon dietary intake of selenium- (Se-) enriched defatted rapeseed (DRS) and/or vitamin E fortification was examined to assess the health benefit of DRS in animal nutrition. Twenty-four individuals of each type of rat were used: The control group was fed with an untreated diet (Diet A). In Diets B and C, soybean meal was replaced with defatted DRS, which comprised 14% of the total diet.

Aims: The differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules in routine practice can be problemmatic for both pathologists and clinicians. The family of human matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) comprises several tightly regulated classes of proteases. These enzymes and their specific inhibitors play important roles in tumour progression and the metastatic process by facilitating extracellular matrix degradation. As scientific understanding of the MMPs has advanced, therapeutic strategies focusing on blocking these enzymes by matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors have rapidly developed.

The authors demonstrate a history of the rectal carcinoma surgical therapy, based on the available literature data or on oral information. Furthermore, they add their own experience with treatment of the rectal carcinoma, the disorder, which in the Czech Republic and, namely, in the Northern Moravian region, has one of the highest worldwide incidence rates.
