There is a great global concern about agricultural wastes from food and feed crop processing that have significant environmental impacts. Composting is the most environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and efficient processes that can solve the problems of accumulation and toxicity of agricultural waste. The aim of this study is the detoxification of coffee husk by composting at two temperature conditions ("warm" and "cold").

Article Synopsis
  • Adding TiO nanoparticles (NPs) to polymeric paints can create self-cleaning coatings, but it might also lead to issues like polymer degradation and the release of harmful chemicals.
  • A new synthesis method for nonmetal-doped TiO-NPs using waste materials minimizes these negative effects while enhancing photocatalytic properties.
  • The modified TiO-NPs demonstrated impressive pollutant removal efficiency (96%) under sunlight or UV light and improved stability in water-based paints, primarily due to reduced recombination rates of charge carriers.

Agro-industrial byproducts and food waste necessitate an environmentally friendly way of reducing issues related to their disposal; it is also necessary to recover as much new raw material from these resources as possible, especially when we consider their potential usage as a precursor for preparing depolluting materials, such as activated carbon. In this work, coffee grounds and olive stones were chosen as precursors and the adsorption capacity of the obtained porous carbons for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was studied. Microporous activated carbons (ACs) were prepared using chemical (KCO) and physical (CO) activation.

Background: The poor health status of underserved populations is compounded by low vaccination uptake, leading to a greater risk of epidemics. On October 2017, a measles outbreak started in the southwest of France among under-vaccinated social groups, including Travellers. We aimed to describe the health status, healthcare use and child measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccination coverage in Travellers according to their environmental and living conditions.

Chikungunya is an arboviral disease causing arthralgia which may develop into a debilitating chronic arthritis. In Mayotte, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, a chikungunya outbreak was reported in 2006, affecting a third of the population. We aimed at assessing the chikungunya seroprevalence in this population, after over a decade from that epidemic.
