Lasers in endoscopic middle ear surgery: where do we stand today?

Objective: To provide an overview of the current status regarding the parallel use of the endoscope and the laser in middle ear surgery.

Methods: Comprehensive Pubmed search from 1975 to 2020 including clinical articles, of any type, reporting the combined use of a laser and an endoscope. Purely experimental and non-human studies were excluded.

Bilateral cochlear nerve absence in a 3 year old child with VACTERL association.

We report a case of a 3 year old boy with bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss diagnosed from New Born Hearing Screening, with severe form of VACTERL association. He was referred to our Cochlear Implant Unit for assessment with regard to the possibility of cochlear implantation. MRI findings have showed bilateral vestibulocochlear cystic abnormalities.

RENAL CELL CARCINOMA METASTASIS TO THE SINONASAL CAVITY: CASE REPORT.

Renal cell carcinoma accounts for 3% of all adult malignant tumors. Common sites of metastases are lungs, bone, liver, brain and adrenal glands. Metastatic disease to the head and neck ranges from 15% to 30%.

The pathophysiology of otosclerosis: Review of current research.

Otosclerosis is a complex disease of the human otic capsule with highest incidence in adult Caucasians. So far, many possible etiological factors like genetics, HLA, autoimmunity, viruses, inflammation, and hormones have been investigated but still the development of the disease remains unclear. Currently, the surgical replacement of stapes (stapedotomy) remains the best possible treatment option.

Pleomorphic Adenoma of the External Auditory Canal: A Rare Presentation.

A 55-year-old male presented with a nine-month history of gradually enlarging, painless mass in the right external auditory canal associated with hearing loss and occasional bleeding. Examination demonstrated complete obstruction of the outer 1/3 of the external auditory canal by a firm, pink, rubbery mass. CT scan of the temporal bone showed tumor mass with no evidence of bone destruction.
