Effect of nutritional stress and photobiomodulation protocol on in vitro viability and proliferation of murine preosteoblast cells.

This study aimed to assess the impact of nutritional conditions and irradiation parameters on the viability and proliferation of murine preosteoblasts. MC3T3-E1 cells were maintained under standard culture conditions (αMEM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum) or nutritional deficit conditions (αMEM without serum) and irradiated or not (control) with an InGaAlP diode laser at wavelengths of 660 nm (red) or 790 nm (infrared), with doses of 1, 4, or 6 J/cm², in a single dose in continuous mode. Cell viability and proliferation were assessed 24, 48, and 72 h after irradiation using the Alamar blue reduction assay.

Breakthroughs in nanoparticle-based strategies for pancreatic cancer therapy.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide, mainly due to its high heterogeneity, resistance to therapy and late diagnosis, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 10%. This dismal prognosis has promoted strategies to develop more effective treatments. Nanoparticle-based strategies have emerged, in the last decades, as a great opportunity because they can enhance drug delivery and promote controlled release, presenting lower side effects than conventional therapeutic regimens.

Effect of dog-owner interaction on post-operative pain perception and stress of dogs and variability in their behavioural patterns.

Pain, a multifaceted condition associated with actual or potential tissue damage, transcends nociception and is characterised as a subjective, sensory, and emotional experience. Extensive literature describing the adverse effects of untreated post-surgical pain emphasises the necessity of a comprehensive pain management protocol, incorporating both pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies to ensure successful patient outcomes. The present study aimed to determine whether a positive dog-owner interaction influences post-operative pain perception and stress (POPPS), as well as behavioural inactive rate variability in bitches that underwent elective surgery.

Association between COVID-19 and the incidence of type 1 diabetes in Portugal - a registry study.

Background: Viral respiratory infections may precipitate type 1 diabetes (T1D). A possible association between the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus responsible for COVID-19, and the incidence of T1D is being determined. This study was carried out using Portuguese registries, aiming at examining temporal trends between COVID-19 and T1D.

Evaluation of the Association between Medication Use and Sleep Quality among Shift Workers versus Day Workers.

 Different factors, such as medication use and shift work, can influence sleep quality. We aimed to determine the association between medication use and sleep quality in shift workers versus daytime workers.  We conducted a quantitative cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of active workers.
