Cariprazine - an Alternative Treatment for Clozapine-resistant Schizophrenia?

Treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) poses a significant therapeutic challenge in psychiatric practice. Clozapine is recognized as a treatment of choice in TRS but is not always effective in alleviating patients' symptoms. Additionally, clozapine therapy is associated with multiple side effects and monitoring requirements that often limit its use and negatively affect patients' compliance with the treatment.

Photoactive Zr-aromatic hybrid thin films made by molecular layer deposition.

The principle of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (PDT) is appealing because it can be controlled by an external light source and possibly the use of durable materials. However, to utilise such surfaces requires a process for their production that allows for coating on even complex geometries. We have therefore explored the ability of the emerging molecular layer deposition (MLD) technique to produce and tune PDT active materials.

Weight loss in Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies: Impact on mortality and hospitalization by dementia subtype.

Objectives: Loss of weight is associated with cognitive decline as well as several adverse outcomes in dementia. The aim of this study was to assess whether weight loss is associated with mortality and hospitalization in dementia subtypes.

Methods: A cohort of 11,607 patients with dementia in Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia (VD), or dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) was assembled from a large dementia care health records database in Southeast London.

Antibiotic-Related Adverse Drug Reactions in Patients Treated on the Dermatology Ward of Medical University of Gdańsk.

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are unexpected reactions to a medication administered in a correct way at a standard dose. Drug-induced skin reactions account for 60-70% of all ADRs. The aim of the study is to determine the prevalence of antibiotic-related dermatological ADR in patients treated in the department of Dermatology, Venerology and Allergology of the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk, Poland, in the years 2004-2021.
