Aim: To investigate the blood pressure (BP) and ductal calibre patterns associated with early ductal closure in very low gestational age (<32 weeks) infants.

Methods: Blood pressure was continuously measured intra-arterially among 43 infants participating in a randomised, double-blind trial of 4 days prophylactic intravenous paracetamol. Early closure of the ductus was verified by daily ultrasound examinations.

Aim: To describe sodium and potassium intake, their sources and plasma concentrations, and the association between intake and morbidity in very-low-birthweight (VLBW, <1500 g) infants during the first week of life.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study comprised 951 VLBW infants born at <32 weeks. Infants were divided into three groups according to gestational age: 23-26 (n = 275), 27-29 (n = 433) and 30-31 (n = 243) weeks.

Background: There is limited data on the organisation of paediatric echocardiography laboratories in Europe.

Methods: A structured and approved questionnaire was circulated across all 95 Association for European Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology affiliated centres. The aims were to evaluate: (1) facilities in paediatric echocardiography laboratories across Europe, (2) accredited laboratories, (3) medical/paramedical staff employed, (4) time for echocardiographic studies and reporting, and (5) training, teaching, quality improvement, and research programs.
