In August 2021, the SOLEIL storage ring was restarted after the summer shutdown with a new bending magnet made entirely of permanent magnets. Producing a magnetic field of 2.8 T, it replaced one of the 32 electromagnetic dipoles (magnetic field of 1.

The Nanoscopium 155 m-long beamline of Synchrotron Soleil is dedicated to scanning hard X-ray nanoprobe techniques. Nanoscopium aims to reach ≤100 nm resolution in the 5-20 keV energy range for routine user experiments. The beamline design tackles the tight stability requirements of such a scanning nanoprobe by creating an overfilled secondary source, implementing all horizontally reflecting main beamline optics, applying high mechanical stability equipment and constructing a dedicated high-stability building envelope.

Results and performances of the QEXAFS double monochromator of the SAMBA beamline (Synchrotron SOLEIL) are presented. The device is capable of speeds of up to 40 Hz, while giving the user the possibility to choose the amplitude of the scan from 0.1° to 4° in a few seconds.

Shewanella-containing microbial fuel cells (MFCs) typically use the fresh water wild-type strain Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 due to its metabolic diversity and facultative oxidant tolerance. However, S. oneidensis MR-1 is not capable of metabolizing polysaccharides for extracellular electron transfer.

Changes in metabolism and cellular physiology of facultative anaerobes during oxygen exposure can be substantial, but little is known about how these changes connect with electrical current output from an operating microbial fuel cell (MFC). A high-throughput voltage based screening assay (VBSA) was used to correlate current output from a MFC containing Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 to carbon source (glucose or lactate) utilization, culture conditions, and biofilm coverage over 250 h. Lactate induced an immediate current response from S.
