For the purposes of this work, a first in Poland, full-year collection of daily PM (particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter smaller than 2.5 μm) samples was chemically analyzed to determine the contents of elemental and organic carbon, water-soluble inorganic ions and 21 minor and trace elements in PM in an urban background site in Warsaw. Annual mean PM concentration reached 18.

The main goal of this paper is to identify the drivers responsible for the high particulate matter concentrations observed in recent years in several urban areas in Poland. The problem was investigated using air quality and meteorological data from routine monitoring network, air mass back trajectories and multivariate statistical modelling. Air pollution in central and southern part of the country was analysed and compared with this in northern-eastern "The Green Lungs of Poland" region.

This is so because for momentum-conserving electron-phonon scattering the energy transfer per collision is severely constrained due to a small Fermi surface size. The characteristic T(3) temperature dependence and power-law cooling dynamics provide clear experimental signatures of this new cooling mechanism.

The relaxation is determined by the interference of electron scattering via the deformation potential and elastic electron scattering from impurities and defects. We have found that in contrast with the destructive interference in metals, which results in the Pippard ineffectiveness condition for the electron-phonon interaction, the interference in semiconducting structures substantially enhances the effective electron-phonon coupling.
