HLA mismatch is important for 20-year graft survival in kidney transplant patients.

Background: Human leukocyte antigens (HLA) matching is gradually being omitted from clinical practice in evaluation for renal allograft transplant. While such practices may yield shorter wait times and adequate short-term outcomes, graft longevity in HLA mismatched patients remains unclear. This study aims to demonstrate that HLA matching may still play an important role in long-term graft survival.

Bad Connection: Stent-to-Stent Fistulization After Common Bile Duct and Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt Stenting.

A 29-year-old man with chronic portal venous thrombosis resulting in portal biliopathy required stenting of his common bile duct (CBD) and underwent a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedure to decrease portal pressures. He later presented with abdominal pain in the setting of prolonged CBD stent placement and was found to have air within his TIPS stent with a fistula on endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography between his fully covered CBD stent and bare metal TIPS stent. There was concern that further intervention would lead to an air embolus.

Antibacterial activity of the micro and nanostructures of the optical material tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum and its application as an antimicrobial coating.

Although tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum (Alq), a fluorescent optical organometallic material, is known for its applications in optoelectronics, it has only few and limited applications in the biological field. In this study, the antibacterial activity of Alq micro and nanostructures was investigated. We prepared Alq nanostructures.

Optimization of biologic therapy in Crohn's disease.

Introduction: Crohn's disease (CD) is a manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which can result in significant morbidity. Biologic therapy with anti-TNF medication has been effective in treating inflammation and reducing complications in CD. It is important for clinicians to have better knowledge of the various biologic therapies including mechanisms of action and optimization strategies.
