Daily rhythms of activity driven by circadian clocks are expressed by many organisms, including molluscs. We initiated this study, with the nudibranch Melibe leonina, with four goals in mind: (1) determine which behaviors are expressed with a daily rhythm; (2) investigate which of these rhythmic behaviors are controlled by a circadian clock; (3) determine if a circadian clock is associated with the eyes or optic ganglia of Melibe, as it is in several other gastropods; and (4) test the hypothesis that Melibe can use extraocular photoreceptors to synchronize its daily rhythms to natural light-dark cycles. To address these goals, we analyzed the behavior of 55 animals exposed to either artificial or natural light-dark cycles, followed by constant darkness.

Purpose: Intraoperative localization of small tumors or malignant polyps has been an important issue in laparoscopic colon surgery. We have developed a new method for preoperative endoscopic tumor marking using a ring-shaped magnetic marker.

Methods: In a pilot study, 28 patients with small colonic (n = 23) or rectal tumors (n = 5) underwent endoscopic magnetic clipping prior to laparoscopic resection.

Objective: Breast duct endoscopy is increasingly used for evaluation of intraductal disease. We present a new rigid instrument for ductoscopy that allows intraductal biopsy and the removal of small lesions.

Methods: Overall, 102 women with breast cancer or pathologic nipple discharge were included in the analysis.

Objective: Breast duct endoscopy is increasingly used for evaluation of intraductal disease. We have investigated a new rigid instrument for ductoscopy and intraductal biopsy of pathologic lesions.

Methods: From 2002 to 2006, ductoscopy was performed in 111 women with breast cancer or pathologic nipple discharge.
