Background: US nursing homes were ground zero for COVID-19 and nursing home leaders faced multiple challenges to keep residents and staff safe. Understanding the leader's role and their use of external resources to rapidly respond to the pandemic is important to better prepare for the next infectious disease outbreak emergency. Purpose: To describe hospital transfers for nursing home residents diagnosed with ESRD and receiving hemodialysis.
Methods: Data were analyzed for residents with ESRD transferred to the hospital between October 2016 and September 2020 (n = 219).
Objectives: Research shows advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) embedded in nursing homes (NHs) reduce resident hospitalizations. However, the specific APRN activities that reduce hospitalizations have not been adequately investigated. This study aims to identify the causal links between APRN activities and NHs resident hospitalization.
