Flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU) transfer to the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) and/or the extensor carpi radialis longus (ECRL) has been commonly used to provide wrist extension. The ability of this wrist extension transfer to also provide forearm supination has been inferred but not formally investigated. This laboratory study investigated the forearm supination effect of FCU transfer to the ECRB and to the ECRL in a cadaveric model.

The purpose of this study is to report the biomechanics of the supination effect of the pronator teres rerouting procedure and to determine the optimum insertion point for the transfer using a cadaveric model. Pronator teres rerouting procedures were performed on 5 fresh-frozen above-elbow cadaver specimens mounted in a forearm rotation mounting frame. The pronator teres was detached from its native insertion and tested at 6 insertions on the radius.

Automated injection of computed tomography contrast material can produce a compartment syndrome if extravasation occurs. Unconscious patients and the elderly may be at particular risk. Selection of nonionic contrast material, careful evaluation of the intravenous administration site, and close monitoring of the patient during use of a power injector may help minimize or prevent extravasation injuries.

We compared the reproducibility of measurements made with the Genucom knee analysis system using two methods of restraint. The first method was that suggested by the manufacturer and consisted of clamping the thigh to the examination chair with 70 N of vertical force and 110 N of mediolateral force and used a single elastic strap to secure the electrogoniometer cuff to the leg. In the second, or enhanced, method, the vertical and mediolateral clamping forces were each increased to 156 N, and an additional strap was used to secure the cuff to the leg.

A prospective study was designed to provide 5-year followup of the treatment of isolated grade III sprains of the medial collateral ligament with early functional rehabilitation in 35 athletes. After injury, patients were placed in lateral hinged braces to provide valgus support without restricting flexion or extension of the knee. Treatment was initiated with range of motion exercises performed in a whirlpool or swimming pool.
