Multi-scale X-ray phase contrast tomography (XPCT) enables three-dimensional (3D), non-destructive imaging of intact small animal cochlea and apical cochlear turns. Here we report on post-mortem imaging of excised non-human primate and rodent cochleae at different [Formula: see text]-CT and nano-CT synchrotron instruments. We explore different sample embeddings, stainings and imaging regimes.

To evaluate the prognostic value of pre-therapeutic inflammatory markers before transarterial chemoembolization with degradable starch microspheres (DSM-TACE) in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A total of 155 patients (81% male, median age: 68 years) who underwent first-time DSM-TACE between 07/13 and 06/22 were included in the study. Inflammatory indices were dichotomized using median values.

Burns are one of the most common trauma injuries worldwide and have detrimental effects on the entire body. However, the current standard of care is autologous split thickness skin grafts (STSGs), which induces additional injuries to the patient. Therefore, the development of alternative treatments to replace traditional STSGs is critical, and bioprinting could be the future of burn care.

Background: The literature provides hints of seasonal influences on burn injury occurrence and outcomes in temperate climates. Still, data for geographic regions experiencing significant changes in climate throughout the year is scarce. Especially the influence of seasonal differences in burn incidence and outcomes for older adults (≥60 years old), a particularly vulnerable patient cohort with increased mortality and morbidity compared to adults (18-59 years old), has not been investigated so far.

With age, our metabolic systems undergo significant alterations, which can lead to a cascade of adverse effects that are implicated in both metabolic disorders, such as diabetes, and in the body's ability to respond to acute stress and trauma. To elucidate the metabolic imbalances arising from aging, we introduce the concept of "metabolaging." This framework encompasses the broad spectrum of metabolic disruptions associated with the hallmarks of aging, including the functional decline of key metabolically active organs, like the adipose tissue.
