Chromosomal instability (CIN) is common in solid tumours and fuels evolutionary adaptation and poor prognosis by increasing intratumour heterogeneity. Systematic characterization of driver events in the TRACERx non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cohort identified that genetic alterations in six genes, including FAT1, result in homologous recombination (HR) repair deficiencies and CIN. Using orthogonal genetic and experimental approaches, we demonstrate that FAT1 alterations are positively selected before genome doubling and associated with HR deficiency.

Background: Sex, as a biological construct, and gender, defined as the cultural attitudes and behaviours attributed by society, may be associated with allograft loss, death, cancer, and rejection. Other factors, such as recipient age and donor sex, may modify the association between sex/gender and post-transplant outcomes.

Objectives: We sought to evaluate the prognostic effects of recipient sex and, separately, gender as independent predictors of graft loss, death, cancer, and allograft rejection following kidney or simultaneous pancreas-kidney (SPK) transplantation.

Objective: To describe the research methods used for the Diet and Health Study, a pilot-feasibility study to assess the impact of a whole-food plant-based vegan diet on college students' physical and mental health.

Design: This 3-week theory-based pilot-feasibility study will employ a stratified, randomized control design (2 intervention groups and 1 comparison group) with measurement of primary and secondary outcomes at baseline and postintervention and end-of-study focus groups.

Setting: Southeastern public state university.

The death of a child is a tragedy of astronomical proportions. Pediatric trauma patients often have injuries so extensive that there is no hope of recovery. Though the tragedy can never be undone, organ donation can save lives and create a legacy for the donor and their loved ones.

Article Synopsis
  • Thin films of poly(arylene ethynylene)-conjugated polymers can be created using a specialized method called surface-confined Sonogashira cross-coupling, which offers precise control over their structure and organization.
  • These polymers boast high stability and significant electronic interactions between chains, enhancing their electronic and spectroscopic properties.
  • The resulting fluorescent films are highly sensitive in chemosensing applications, effectively detecting nitroaromatic explosives in water at extremely low concentrations (sub-ppt level) due to improved exciton mobility.
