The CryoPop study: Screening for high-grade cervical dysplasia in Karnataka, India.

Objective: To describe our experience of screening with visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) and colposcopy to identify women with high-grade precancerous cervical lesions who were candidates for cryotherapy. Women were screened to determine eligibility for a clinical trial testing the safety and efficacy of a new, simple and inexpensive cryotherapy device (CryoPop®) targeted for use in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Design: Prospective cohort study.

A cross-sectional observational study to assess socio-demographic factors in newly diagnosed TB DM comorbidity.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes mellitus (DM) co-morbidity is one of the rising public health problems. There is growing evidence that DM is an important risk factor for TB. This study was carried out to know the prevalence of DM among newly detected sputum positive pulmonary TB patients registered in District Tuberculosis Centre and to assess the risk factors of DM among TB patients.

Safety and efficacy of the new CryoPop® cryotherapy device for cervical dysplasia in low- and middle-income countries: study protocol for a multicenter open-label non-inferiority clinical trial with historical controls.

Background: Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the world, affecting mainly women residing in low- and middle-income countries. Progression from a pre-invasive phase to that of an invasive phase generally takes years and provides a window of opportunity to screen for and treat precancerous lesions.

Methods: This study is being conducted at four sites in north Karnataka, India.

Antenatal Dexamethasone for Early Preterm Birth in Low-Resource Countries.

Background: The safety and efficacy of antenatal glucocorticoids in women in low-resource countries who are at risk for preterm birth are uncertain.

Methods: We conducted a multicountry, randomized trial involving pregnant women between 26 weeks 0 days and 33 weeks 6 days of gestation who were at risk for preterm birth. The participants were assigned to intramuscular dexamethasone or identical placebo.

Misoprostol for primary versus secondary prevention of postpartum haemorrhage: a cluster-randomised non-inferiority community trial.

Objective: To assess whether secondary prevention, which preemptively treats women with above-average postpartum bleeding, is non-inferior to universal prophylaxis.

Design: A cluster-randomised non-inferiority community trial.

Setting: Health sub-centres and home deliveries in the Bijapur district of Karnataka, India.
