A novel monoclonal antibody against human thymic stromal lymphopoietin for the treatment of TSLP-mediated diseases.

Introduction: Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is a master regulator of allergic inflammation against pathogens at barrier surfaces of the lung, skin, and gut. However, aberrant TSLP activity is implicated in various allergic, chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases and cancers. Biologics drugs neutralizing excess TSLP activity represented by tezepelumab have been approved for severe asthma and are being evaluated for the treatments of other TSLP-mediated diseases.

Preventing Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema: A Comprehensive Analysis of a 9-Year Single-Center Experience of Prophylactic Lymphovenous Bypass.

Background: Prophylactic lymphovenous bypass (pLVB) is a microsurgical technique aimed to prevent breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) after axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) by redirecting lymphatic flow from the ligated lymphatics into neighboring veins. This report describes the authors' 9-year institutional experience of pLVB in patients undergoing ALND to prevent BCRL.

Methods: Patients who underwent ALND were reviewed.

The unanticipated contribution of Zap70 in retinal degeneration: implications for microglial inflammatory activation.

Inflammation is a major mechanism of photoreceptor cell death in the retina during macular degeneration leading to the blindness. In this study, we investigated the role of the kinase molecule Zap70, which is an inflammatory regulator of the systemic immune system, to elucidate the control mechanism of inflammation in the retina. We observed activated microglial cells migrated and populated the retinal layer following blue LED-induced photoreceptor degeneration and activated microglial cells in the LED-injured retina expressed Zap70, unlike the inactive microglial cells in the normal retina.

Effects of Smoking Behavior Change on Diabetes Incidence after Cancer Development: A Nationwide Cohort Study.

Aim: Cigarette smoking and diabetes mellitus (DM) increase risks of cardiovascular diseases and all-cause mortality in cancer survivors. An increased risk of DM incidence in cancer survivors has been observed and smoking is an important modifiable risk factor for DM development in the general population. Thus, we investigated the association between smoking behavior change after cancer diagnosis and DM incidence in cancer survivors.
