Background: Admission of a preterm infant to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is highly stressful for parents. NICU nurses play a crucial role in providing support, positively impacting health and aiding effective stress management during this challenging period. This study assesses stress and nurse-parent support for parents with preterm infants in the NICU, exploring connections between stress, support, and various parental and infant variables.

BACKGROUND Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a neuropathy caused by the entrapment of the median nerve, which requires effective management strategies. The median nerve is subjected to pressure within the carpal tunnel, resulting in tingling, numbness, and pain in the median side of the hand. We compared the efficacy of splint use with an exercise program vs exercise alone in patients with mild and moderate CTS.

Article Synopsis
  • Pyometra is a serious inflammatory disease affecting older intact female dogs, particularly during the diestrus stage, and can lead to significant health issues.
  • The study examined five types of aquaporins (proteins that help transport water) in uterine tissue and their links to various health markers like blood lipopolysaccharide levels and antioxidant activity in dogs with pyometra.
  • Results showed changes in aquaporin levels between affected dogs and control dogs, including downregulation of AQP1, AQP2, and AQP5, while AQP9 and AQP3 were upregulated, suggesting a complex relationship between these proteins and the disease's progression.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared clinical outcomes of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) surgeries during COVID-related lockdowns (partial and complete) versus non-COVID periods in a tertiary ophthalmology clinic.
  • A total of 20 cases were analyzed for both partial and complete lockdowns, and 23 cases from non-COVID times, focusing on factors such as visual symptoms duration, lens status, and visual acuity.
  • Results showed no significant differences in surgical approaches or final visual acuity after two years across the different periods, suggesting that lockdowns did not impact the effectiveness of RRD surgeries.
