Background: Surveillance of surgical site infection (SSI) relies on manual methods that are time-consuming and prone to subjectivity. This study evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of ChatGPT for detecting SSI from electronic health records after colorectal surgery via comparison with the results of a nationwide surveillance programme.

Methods: This pilot, retrospective, multicentre analysis included 122 patients who underwent colorectal surgery.

Dactylitis is a clinical concept that corresponds to the swelling of the whole finger or toe giving a sausage appearance. Although it can be observed in different diseases, it is a distinctive clinical feature of psoriatic arthritis and is associated with a poor prognosis. Ultrasound has made it possible to improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of psoriatic arthritis dactylitis, identifying associated structural alterations, namely, flexor tenosynovitis, subcutaneous tissue edema, pulley inflammation with thickening and intra-pulley Doppler signals, extensor paratenonitis, synovitis, pericapsular bone formation, and flexor enthesitis.

The infiltration of immune cells into the central nervous system mediates the development of autoimmune neuroinflammatory diseases. We previously showed that the loss of either Fabp5 or calnexin causes resistance to the induction of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in mice, an animal model of multiple sclerosis (MS). Here we show that brain endothelial cells lacking either Fabp5 or calnexin have an increased abundance of cell surface CD200 and soluble CD200 (sCD200) as well as decreased T-cell adhesion.

Introduction: Polymeric nanoparticles used for antigen delivery against infections and for cancer immunotherapy are an emerging therapeutic strategy in promoting the development of innovative vaccines. Beyond their capability to create targeted delivery systems with controlled release of payloads, biodegradable polymers are utilized for their ability to enhance the immunogenicity and stability of antigens.

Areas Covered: This review extensively discusses the physicochemical parameters that affect the behavior of nanoparticles as antigen-delivery systems.
