104 cases of pneumonia, treated in Department of Pulmonary Diseases of Military Medical Academy in the years 1995-1997, were analysed. Patients were divided into two groups. In the first group were 58 patients which had acute symptoms of pneumonia and the treatment was started in our department without any treatment before.

We have studied the sensitivity of pulmonary mast cells and blood basophils in patients with sarcoidosis and bronchial asthma. The cells were induced in vitro with anti-IgE. The histamine releasing from mast cells and basophils was high in both examined groups of patients.

The results of transthoracic biopsy in 100 cases and of transthoracic punction in 42 cases were analysed. The material which was obtained by the two methods was on principle investigated cytologically. A comparison of the two methods is given.
