OBJECTIVE The double transgenic mouse model (APPswe/PS1dE9) of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been widely used in experimental studies. β-Amyloid (Aβ) peptide is excessively produced in AD mouse brain, which affects synaptic function and the development of central nervous system. However, little has been reported on characterization of this model.

Prostaglandin output is regulated by the synthetic and metabolic enzymes, prostaglandin synthase type 2 (PTGS2) and 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (PGDH). The role of calcium in regulating PTGS2 and PGDH expression was investigated in chorion trophoblasts.

Recent evidence has shown that miRNA misexpression correlates with progression of various human cancers. Friend erythroleukemia has been used as an excellent system for the identification and characterization of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes involved in neoplastic transformation.

PGE2 is involved in initiation and progression of labor in many species. Biosynthesis of PGE2 is mediated by cyclooxygenases (COX) and prostaglandin E synthases (PGES). mPGES-1 and COX-2 form an inducible pathway for PGE2 production in many cell systems.
