Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the immune characteristics and viral makeup of young adults in Argentina who acquired HIV at birth (p-YA), comparing them to young adults with HIV acquired through other means.
  • Researchers conducted a detailed examination of immune cell types and their functions using techniques like flow cytometry and ELISA, involving 18 p-YA and various control groups.
  • Key findings revealed that p-YA had a unique immune profile with more naïve CD4 T-cells and lower signs of exhaustion, suggesting they face different challenges in managing the HIV virus compared to those who acquired it later in life.

Diseases caused by spp. can affect a wide range of plants, including vegetables, with yield losses ranging from 10 to 50%. Sclerotinia diseases can be especially problematic in high tunnels where high-value vegetable crops are planted in early spring to extend the growing season, achieve earlier harvest, and bring higher profits.

This is the first report of the health economic benefits derived from preventing infections through Immunoglobulin Replacement Therapy (IgRT) in patients with secondary immunodeficiency due to hematological malignancies. We conducted a retrospective population-based cohort study using patient medical history and pharmacy data from the Hospital Clínico San Carlos for 21 patients between 2011 and 2020. The pharmacoeconomic impact of using prophylactic IgRT was assessed by comparing characteristics of the SID patients 1 year before and after initiating IgRT measured by direct medical and tangible indirect costs.

Background: There are no studies assessing the evolution and patterns of genetic studies performed at diagnosis in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. Such studies could help to identify potential gaps in our present diagnostic practices, especially in the context of increasingly complex procedures and classifications.

Methods: The REALMOL study (NCT05541224) evaluated the evolution, patterns, and clinical impact of performing main genetic and molecular studies performed at diagnosis in 7285 adult AML patients included in the PETHEMA AML registry (NCT02607059) between 2000 and 2021.

Propagation of viruses requires interaction with host factors in infected cells and repression of innate immune responses triggered by the host viral sensors. Cytosolic DNA sensing pathway of cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) and stimulator of interferon genes (STING) is a major component of the antiviral response to DNA viruses, also known to play a relevant role in response to infection by RNA viruses, including foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV). Here, we provide supporting evidence of cGAS degradation in swine cells during FMDV infection and show that the two virally encoded proteases, Leader (Lpro) and 3Cpro, target cGAS for cleavage to dampen the cGAS/STING-dependent antiviral response.
