Hypovolaemic phlebotomy in patients undergoing hepatic resection at higher risk of blood loss (PRICE-2): a randomised controlled trial.

Background: Blood loss and subsequent red blood cell transfusions are common in liver surgery. Hypovolaemic phlebotomy is associated with decreased red blood cell transfusion in observational studies. This trial aimed to investigate whether hypovolaemic phlebotomy is superior to usual care in reducing red blood cell transfusions in patients undergoing liver resection.

Visual Impairment and Low Vision Aids-A Comparison between Children and Adults.

(1) Background: This study aims to highlight differences in the etiology and fitting of low vision aids in visually impaired children and adolescents in comparison to adults. (2) Methods: A retrospective data collection from visually impaired patients presenting to obtain assistive devices from 1 January 2016 to 30 April 2020 was conducted. A total of 502 patients were included.

Verification of peroxyacetic acid treatment against L. monocytogenes on fresh apples using E. faecium NRRL B-2354 as a surrogate in commercial spray-bar operations.

Peroxyacetic acid (PAA) is a commonly used antimicrobial in apple spray bar interventions during post-harvest packing. However, limited information is available about its efficacy against foodborne pathogens on fresh apples under commercial packing conditions. In this study, the practical efficacies of PAA against Listeria monocytogenes on fresh apples during spray bar operation at ambient and elevated temperature were validated in three commercial packing facilities using Enterococcus faecium NRRL B-2354 as a surrogate strain.
