Cassava starch extraction with a polygalacturonase from a wild yeast strain with disintegration activity on plant tissues.

The objective of the present study was to optimize an enzymatic starch extraction process from cassava roots using a polyglacturonase (PGase) from a wild yeast strain (Wickerhanomyces anomalus). The supernatant of W. anomalus culture, with PGase activity, was used as source of enzyme (enzymatic extract, EE).

Primary intrarenal hemangioma - A series of 39 cases.

Intrarenal hemangiomas lack concise clinicopathologic information, due to the predominance of single case reports and inclusion of other vascular neoplasms and hemangiomas of perirenal, hilar, and renal vein origin. Herein, in this multi-institutional study we evaluate clinicopathologic features of 39 intrarenal hemangiomas. The median age was 62 years (range = 27-94 years; 2:1 male to female ratio), with left-sided predominance (left = 21, right = 13; one case was bilateral).

The Role of Myeloid Cells on the Development of Hepatic Metastases in Gastrointestinal Cancer.

The development of hepatic metastases is the leading cause of mortality in gastrointestinal (GI) cancers and substantial research efforts have been focused on elucidating the intricate mechanisms by which tumor cells successfully migrate to, invade, and ultimately colonize the liver parenchyma. Recent evidence has shown that perturbations in myeloid biology occur early in cancer development, characterized by the initial expansion of specific innate immune populations that promote tumor growth and facilitate metastases. This review summarizes the pathophysiology underlying the proliferation of myeloid cells that occurs with incipient neoplasia and explores the role of innate immune-host interactions, specifically granulocytes and neutrophil extracellular traps, in promoting hepatic colonization by tumor cells through the formation of the "premetastatic niche".

Lymph node metrics following neoadjuvant therapy to refine patient selection for adjuvant chemotherapy in resected pancreatic cancer: A multi-institutional analysis.

Background: In patients with localized pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) undergoing neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) and resection, selection of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) is typically guided by high-risk features on histopathologic examination. We evaluated the interaction between post-NAT lymph node metrics and AC receipt on survival.

Methods: Patients who received NAT followed by pancreatectomy (2010-2020) at seven centers were reviewed.
