Iatrogenic cerebral amyloid angiopathy and Alzheimer's disease co-pathology.

Iatrogenic cerebral amyloid angiopathy, a disease caused by contact with neurosurgical material or human growth hormone contaminated by beta-amyloid peptide (Aβ), has a prion-like transmission mechanism. We present a series of three patients under 55 years of age who underwent cranial surgery. All of them developed multiple cerebral hemorrhages, transient focal neurological deficits, and/or cognitive impairment after 3-4 decades.

Thiophene-Based Covalent Triazine Frameworks as Visible-Light-Driven Heterogeneous Photocatalysts for the Oxidative Coupling of Amines.

This study reports on a metal-free Covalent Triazine Framework (CTF) incorporating bithiophene structural units (TP-CTF) with a semicrystalline structure as an efficient heterogeneous photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. The physico-chemical properties and composition of this material was confirmed via different characterization solid-state techniques, such as XRD, TGA, CO adsorption and FT-IR, NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopies. The compound was synthesized through a solvothermal process and was explored as a heterogeneous photocatalyst for the oxidative coupling of amines to imines under visible light irradiation.

CRK and NCK adaptors may functionally overlap in zebrafish neurodevelopment, as indicated by common binding partners and overlapping expression patterns.

CRK adaptor proteins are important for signal transduction mechanisms driving cell proliferation and positioning during vertebrate central nervous system development. Zebrafish lacking both CRK family members exhibit small, disorganized retinas with 50% penetrance. The goal of this study was to determine whether another adaptor protein might functionally compensate for the loss of CRK adaptors.

Synthesis of Known and Previously Inaccessible Poly(pyrazolyl)Borates under Mild Conditions.

Poly(pyrazolyl)borate ligands have been obtained through the reaction of highly reactive haloboranes with in situ formed pyrazolides under very mild conditions. This versatile synthetic method allows the selective synthesis of bis-, tris-, or tetrakis(pyrazolyl)borates. Furthermore, the method is compatible with the use of functional groups on the heterocyclic moieties of the poly(pyrazolyl)borates that were not accessible to date.

Neutropenic fever of unknown origin and disseminated granulomatous disease in a patient with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

An 18-year-old male was admitted for his second induction chemotherapy treatment for an acute lymphoblastic leukaemia with cyclophosphamide, cytarabine, and mercaptopurine. He presented with high fever, abdominal pain, non-bloody diarrhoea, portal hypertension and leukopenia. Stool sample analysis, blood cultures and extensive work-up were negative.
