The effect of multidomain lifestyle intervention on health care service use and costs - secondary analyses from the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER): a randomised controlled trial.

Background: The Finnish multidomain lifestyle intervention study to prevent cognitive impairment and disability (FINGER, N = 1259), a randomised controlled trial had beneficial effects on morbidity in older people, but to what extent such a lifestyle intervention may affect the use of health care services and their costs especially in long term are unknown.

Objective: This study investigated the effect of a two-year FINGER multidomain intervention on health care service use during the 8-year follow-up. The costs of service use were also evaluated.

Association between delay in diabetes development and mortality in people with obesity: Up to 33 years follow-up of the prospective Swedish Obese Subjects study.

Aims: Life expectancy is reduced in people with obesity and is further reduced in those with concomitant type 2 diabetes. The aim of the study was to assess whether a 2-year delay in diabetes development influences life expectancy in people with obesity.

Materials And Methods: Participants from the Swedish Obese Subjects study without diabetes at baseline and known diabetes status at the 2-year follow-up were included: bariatric surgery (n = 1471) and usual obesity care (n = 1392).

Work-restricting musculoskeletal pain after bariatric surgery or usual obesity care in the Swedish Obese Subjects study.

Objective: The objective of this study was to study the recovery from, and incidence of, work-restricting musculoskeletal pain after bariatric surgery compared with usual obesity care.

Methods: Pain in different body regions was monitored using questionnaires in the nonrandomized, prospective, controlled Swedish Obese Subjects (SOS) study, which included 2007 participants treated with bariatric surgery and a matched control group of 2040 participants receiving usual obesity care at primary health care centers. Self-reported pain in the neck and shoulders, back, hips, knees, and ankles was captured from questionnaires administered at baseline and after 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, and 20 years.

Tackling the challenge of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes across Europe: a joint action by more than 300 public health professionals. Commentary.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and diabetes pose significant health challenges in Europe, affecting millions and burdening healthcare systems. The recent EU4Health Programme places reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCD) at the forefront, through a Joint Action focused on CVD and diabetes (JACARDI, Joint Action on CARdiovascular diseases and DIabetes). This initiative unites 21 European countries, including Ukraine, and over 300 experts.

Fifteen-year changes in health-related quality of life after bariatric surgery and non-surgical obesity treatment.

Background: Evidence on the long-term (≥10 years) development of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) following bariatric surgery is still limited and mainly based on small-scale studies. This study aimed to investigate (1) 15-year changes in mental, physical, social, and obesity-related HRQoL after bariatric surgery and non-surgical obesity treatment; and (2) whether sociodemographic factors and pre-operative health status are associated with 15-year HRQoL changes in the surgery group.

Methods: Participants were from the non-randomized, prospective, controlled Swedish Obese Subjects study.
