We report 8 cases of persistent severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pneumonia in patients previously treated with anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies. Polymerase chain reaction of nasopharyngeal swabs for SARS-CoV-2 was negative in most cases; viral cell cultures confirmed that viable SARS-Co-2 virus was present. Four patients were treated with anti-SARS-CoV-2 hyperimmune globulins with rapid resolution of disease.

A population-level adolescent health survey has been a reliable source of information about the health and well-being of 12-19-year-olds in Western Canada since its introduction in 1992. However, the survey has never accurately measured child poverty, partially due to the complex social and geographical make-up of the region. The current study sought to adapt a model for developing a child-centric index of material deprivation which had been successfully used in the UK.

We aimed to compare the reliability of laboratory blood tests using 2 sampling methods, via a peripheral venous catheter (PVC) vs direct venipuncture stab (DVS), we evaluated the effect of time elapsed since PVC insertion, PVC diameter, and administration of saline and/or antibiotic infusion through PVC on the blood test results. A prospective comparative study was conducted between May 2018 and July 2019. Patients aged ≥ 18 years and admitted to our department with a 20G/22G PVC inserted within the last 24 hours were enrolled.

Background: Soluble human leucocyte antigen (sHLA) molecules, released into the plasma, carry their original peptide cargo and provide insight into the protein synthesis and degradation schemes of their source cells and tissues. Other body fluids, such as pleural effusions, may also contain sHLA-peptide complexes, and can potentially serve as a source of tumor antigens since these fluids are drained from the tumor microenvironment. We explored this possibility by developing a methodology for purifying and analyzing large pleural effusion sHLA class I peptidomes of patients with malignancies or benign diseases.
