A Multidisciplinary Approach to the Classification and Management of Intestinal Failure: Knowledge in Progress.

Intestinal failure (IF) is a debilitating condition characterized by the insufficient function of the gastrointestinal tract to absorb nutrients and fluids essential for life. This review consolidates recent advancements and challenges in managing IF among adult and pediatric populations, highlighting differences in etiology, management, and outcomes. Over the recent years, significant strides have been made in the nutritional and medical management of IF, significantly reducing mortality rates and improving the quality of life for patients.

Circulating Gastric Cancer Stem Cells as Blood Screening and Prognosis Factor in Gastric Cancer.

Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death, associated with late diagnosis and treatment resistance. Currently, screening tests for GC are not cost-effective or have low accuracy. Previously, we described an extended phenotype of gastric cancer stem cells (GCSCs; CD24CD44CD54EpCAM) that is associated with metastasis and tumor stage in GC patients.

High CD8 T cell percentage and HCV replication control are common features in HIV-1 controllers and HTLV-2-co-infected patients with a history of injection drug use.

HTLV-2/HIV-1-coinfected patients and HIV-infected patients with natural HIV-1 control show an immune capacity that allows some control of viral infections. These two groups of patients have showed an immune capacity that allows them to have some control over viral infections, very strong control of HIV-1 replication in the case of HIV-1 controllers. The purpose of this retrospective cross-sectional study was to compare viral and immunologic parameters between three cohorts of Caucasian adult HIV-1-infected patients, including HIV-1 controllers (29 patients), HTLV-2/HIV-1 chronic progressors (56 patients), and HIV-1 chronic progressors (101 patients), followed in two different tertiary University Hospitals in Spain.

Robotic colposacropexy.

Objectives: To review the role of robot- assisted laparoscopic colposacropexy (RALCS) as a treatment for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) accordingly with the available literature and our own experience.

Methods: We have analyzed the studies with the results of robot-assisted colposacropexy (RALCS) and others in which this technique is compared with the abdominal (ACS) and/or the laparoscopic approach (LCS), including our own series. The main data collected are surgical time, blood loss, complications, clinical outcomes, quality of life and the different costs of LCS versus RALCS.

[Medical treatment of symptoms associated with double J catheters: Scientific evidence.].

Double J stents are used in Urology in an important number of pathologies. These devices contribute to solve very prevalent pathologies such as upper urinary tract lithiasis. However, there are very frequent symptoms associated with double J catheters that may produce a very important constraint on the quality of life of patients.
