Impact of COVID-19 on Sedation Requirements during Veno-Venous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

COVID-19-associated ARDS (C-ARDS) is mentioned to express higher analgosedation needs, in comparison to ARDS of other etiologies. The objective of this monocentric retrospective cohort study was to compare the analgosedation needs between C-ARDS and non-COVID-19 ARDS (non-C-ARDS) on veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO). Data were collected from the electronic medical records of all adult patients treated with C-ARDS in our Department of Intensive Care Medicine between March 2020 and April 2022.

Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination: Two cases from Germany with unusual presentation.

Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a rare clinical condition that has emerged during the mass immunization against SARS-CoV-2. Reports indicate that VITT may also be induced by other vaccines, such as the human papillomavirus vaccine, or occur independently of vaccination. Its recognition requires a high index of suspicion, especially in patients presenting with thrombocytopenia and thrombosis several days after vaccination with an adenoviral vector-based vaccine against SARS-CoV-2.

Primary hypothyroidism resolves after switching from L-thyroxine solid tablets to liquid oral substitution. A rare case without evidence of an underlying gastrointestinal malabsorption syndrome.

A case of refractory primary hypothyroidism is presented. Despite laboratory-guided hormonal substitution, the patient remained hypothyroid. Multiple diagnostic tests ruled out all known causes of levothyroxine malabsorption.

Blunt traumatic right coronary artery dissection presenting with second-degree atrioventricular block and late-onset severe cardiogenic shock.

Background: Blunt chest injury may induce several cardiovascular traumata, requiring immediate care. Right coronary artery dissection (RCA) is an extremely rare sequela in this setting and is associated with high mortality, if it remains undiagnosed. Case presentation We present the case of an RCA dissection after blunt chest trauma in a 16-year-old patient, who initially presented with a second-degree atrioventricular block as solitary manifestation on admission.
