Many Plasmodium genes remain uncharacterized due to low genetic tractability. Previous large-scale knockout screens have only been able to target about half of the genome in the more genetically tractable rodent malaria parasite Plasmodium berghei. To overcome this limitation, we have developed a scalable CRISPR system called P.

Article Synopsis
  • Magnesium (Mg) is essential for metabolic functions and muscle health, with low levels (hypomagnesaemia) linked to muscle diseases and impairments in neuromuscular diseases (NMDs).
  • A scoping review analyzed 305 studies, ultimately highlighting 20 (4 preclinical and 16 clinical) that show Mg's significant impact on muscle tissue health and recovery.
  • While Mg supplementation has benefits for muscle mass and strength, research specifically on its effects in NMDs is limited, suggesting a need for further studies to explore this potential link.
