The ability of a ring-shaped molecule to sustain a global aromatic or antiaromatic ring current when placed in a magnetic field indicates that its electronic wave function is coherently delocalized around its whole circumference. Large molecules that display this behavior are attractive components for molecular electronic devices, but this phenomenon is rare in neutral molecules with circuits of more than 40 π-electrons. Here, we use theoretical methods to investigate how the global ring currents evolve with increasing ring size in cyclic molecular nanobelts built from edge-fused porphyrins.

MRE11 nuclease is a central player in signaling and processing DNA damage, and in resolving stalled replication forks. Here, we describe the identification and characterization of new MRE11 inhibitors MU147 and MU1409. Both compounds inhibit MRE11 nuclease more specifically and effectively than the relatively weak state-of-the-art inhibitor mirin.

Purpose: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic inflammatory skin disease that severely impairs patient's life quality and represents significant therapeutic challenge due to its pathophysiology arising from skin barrier dysfunction. Topical corticosteroids, the mainstay treatment for mild to moderate AD, are usually formulated into conventional dosage forms that are impeded by low drug permeation, resulting in high doses with consequent adverse effects, and also lack properties that would strengthen the skin barrier. Herein, we aimed to develop biomimetic lamellar lyotropic liquid crystals (LLCs), offering a novel alternative to conventional AD treatment.

In Slovenia, primary acellular pertussis vaccines (ACVs) containing pertactin (PRN) were mostly used during 1999-2016; ACVs without PRN were introduced in 2017. Among 123 Bordetella pertussis strains collected during 2002-2020, a total of 48 were PRN-deficient; 44 were collected after 2017. Changes to ACVs could increase PRN-deficient B.

Apolipoprotein E (apoE) has a pivotal role in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) pathophysiology. APOE4 has been recognized as a risk factor for developing late-onset AD. Recently, APOE4 homozygosity was regarded as a new familial genetic trait of AD.
