Studies have indicated the potential importance of the human nasal and respiratory microbiomes in health and disease. However, the roles of these microbiomes in the pathogenesis of influenza and its complications are not fully understood. Therefore, the objective of this systematic review and analysis is to identify the patterns of nasal and respiratory microbiome dysbiosis and to define the unique signature bacteria associated with influenza compared with other respiratory tract infections.

Background: Frailty is a syndrome associated with age-related impairments in multiple organ systems, of which the autonomic nervous system plays a fundamental role. Measurement of heart rate variability (HRV) is a non-invasive method to evaluate the autonomic activity and gain insights into cardiovascular health and potentially, frailty. A few small studies have explored the relationship between HRV and frailty, with promising but conflicting results.

Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites are increasingly used in civil engineering for strengthening and repairing existing reinforced concrete (RC) members using externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) and near-surface mounted (NSM) methods. However, the fire performance of FRP-strengthened RC members has been an important issue that should be properly considered in the fire safety design process since FRP composites exhibit significant performance degradation at elevated temperatures. This paper aims to review studies on the fire performance of FRP-strengthened RC members based on the existing research results presented in the literature to provide a comprehensive understanding of key factors influencing the structural behavior of FRP-strengthened RC members under fire conditions.

A major concern of xenotransplantation is that donor organs may be a source of pathogens. One pathogen in particular, porcine cytomegalovirus (PCMV), a porcine roseolovirus (PRV), is thought to result in donor organ failure in an immunosuppressed state. Porcine cytomegalovirus is difficult to detect in organ donor swine because of its ability to establish latency.

Introduction: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of adjunct systemic corticosteroid therapy in patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with bacterial community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).

Method: We searched MEDLINE, Embase and the Cochrane Library to identify randomised controlled trials (RCTs) published from the databases' inception to February 2024. All RCTs evaluating the effect of systemic corticosteroids on mortality, compared to standard of care among adult bacterial CAP patients admitted to ICU were included.
