Improvement in protein HSQC spectra from addition of betaine.

Addition of glycine betaine up to 1 M gave rise to increased intensity for some weak signals in the HSQC spectra of barnase and Plasmodium falciparum flap endonuclease. The signals that were enhanced were low intensity signals, often from amide groups with rapid internal motion (low order parameter). The majority of signals are however somewhat weaker because of the increased viscosity.

A pragmatic approach to monitor for adrenal axis recovery after a failed short synacthen test.

Objective: To identify a morning cortisol threshold value which confirms non-recovery of the adrenal axis and therefore negates the need for a Short Synacthen test (SST) in those with known adrenal axis insufficiency.

Methods: We collected data from all SSTs (n=1,570 tests; n=952 individuals) conducted in our hospital over a 10-year period spanning between 01/02/2013 and 30/01/2023. We included all tests where baseline cortisol levels were taken before 9:30am.

Participation in a home visiting program predicted maternal but not child vocabulary diversity: A pragmatic randomized trial in Brazil.

The Criança Feliz (Happy Child) parenting program is a home visiting intervention serving over a million low-income Brazilian families. The current study assessed its longitudinal associations with maternal and child speech and gestures in a subsample (n = 145) from the program's impact evaluation research. We performed a between-participants pragmatic randomized trial.
