One-to-one care routines and compliance with the national professional recommendation on continuous intrapartum support in Norway: A national survey.

Introduction: In 2010, the Norwegian Directorate of Health introduced the guideline 'Safe maternity services - quality standards for maternal care'. These standards include adequate staffing with health care personnel for birth units to ensure responsible monitoring and treatment. Birth units are to follow the professional recommendation that every woman has a midwife present during established labor.

Modifications in cardiovascular functional parameters with aging.

Background: The constant rise in the number of old people involves a great interest towards the aging of the cardiovascular system. Many authors have studied age-adjusted limits to echocardiographic and functional parameters. The aim of this study is to evaluate some functional parameters so as to define the cardiovascular modifications of the aging heart.

Analysis of heart rate variability five minutes before the onset of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Background: Various experimental and clinical observations suggest changes in sympathetic and vagal neural regulatory mechanisms play a critical role in altering cardiac electrical properties and favor the occurrence of arrhythmic events. There is limited information about the influences of the autonomic tone on the development of episodes of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in patients with no evidence of organic heart disease. The aim of this study was to investigate changes in sympatho-vagal balance 5 minutes before the onset of atrial fibrillation.

Novel Antioxidants Isolated from Perilla frutescens Britton var. crispa (Thunb.).

Two novel antioxidants (vinyl caffeate and trans-p-menth-8-en-7-yl caffeate) and seven known antioxidants (3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde, methyl 3,4-dihydroxy-benzoate, methyl caffeate, 3',4',5,7-tetra-hydroxy-flavone, caffeic acid, 6,7-dihydroxycoumarin, and rosmarinic acid) were isolated from Perilla frutescens Britton var. crispa (Thunb.).
