Building a second-opinion tool for classical polygraph.

Classical polygraph screenings are routinely used by critical businesses such as banking, law enforcement agencies, and federal governments. A major concern of scientific communities is that screenings are prone to errors. However, screening errors are not only due to the method, but also due to human (polygraph examiner) error.

Approach to high quality GaN lateral nanowires and planar cavities fabricated by focused ion beam and metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy.

We have developed a method to fabricate GaN planar nanowires and cavities by combination of Focused Ion Beam (FIB) patterning of the substrate followed by Metal Organic Vapor Phase Epitaxy (MOVPE). The method includes depositing a silicon nitride mask on a sapphire substrate, etching of the trenches in the mask by FIB with a diameter of 40 nm with subsequent MOVPE growth of GaN within trenches. It was observed that the growth rate of GaN is substantially increased due to enhanced bulk diffusion of the growth precursor therefore the model for analysis of the growth rate was developed.

[Surgical treatment of gastroduodenal ulcer hemorrhage].

The results of treatment of patients with gastroduodenal ulcerous bleeding over 20-year period were analyzed. From 1997 active individualized policy was used in the treatment of 522 patients. In duodenal ulcer the drug-thermal vagotomy was applied as well as traditional organ-saving operations, in combination with extraduodenisation of ulcer when it penetrates into pancreatic head.

[Age-related dynamics of aortic atherosclerosis in males of Riga].

The epidemiological autopsy study of 1338 men in Riga aged 20-59 was repeated 20-25 years after the first similar investigation. Aortas were stained with Sudan IV and atherosclerotic lesions were graded by visual-planimetric method. It was the significant growth, with age, of all kinds of lesions except lipoid streaks, having the most prominent increase in men aged 40-49.
