Background: Subdural hematoma (SDH) typically occurs due to traumatic brain injury but can arise as a rare complication of procedures like endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV).

Case Presentation: We report an unusual case in a 9-year-old male with previous resection of a fourth-ventricle ependymoma at 2 years of age. Seven years post-surgery, he presented with worsening hydrocephalus and underwent ETV.

Ribosomes scanning from the mRNA 5' cap to the start codon may initiate at upstream open reading frames (uORFs), decreasing protein biosynthesis. Termination at a uORF can lead to re-initiation, where 40S subunits resume scanning and initiate another translation event downstream. The noncanonical translation factors MCTS1-DENR participate in re-initiation at specific uORFs, but knowledge of other trans-acting factors or uORF features influencing re-initiation is limited.

Marine invasive species pose significant ecological, economic, and social challenges, disrupting native ecosystems, outcompeting local species and altering biodiversity. The spread of these species is largely driven by global trade, shipping, and climate change, which allow non-native species to establish themselves in new environments. Current management strategies, including early detection, rapid response, and biosecurity measures, have had some success, but the complexity and scale of the problem require continuous monitoring.

Article Synopsis
  • Childhood trauma negatively affects mental health and can be passed down to future generations, impacting the emotional and behavioral issues of children.
  • The study analyzed 310 preschool-aged children to see how maternal childhood trauma interacted with genetic factors, specifically the COMT ValMet variant, and assessed behavioral problems using established questionnaires.
  • Results showed that while maternal trauma generally increases behavioral issues in children, those with the Val/Met genotype are less prone to certain problems compared to those with other genetic variants, highlighting the importance of both trauma and genetics in child development.

Introduction: The term second victim arises when a healthcare professional experiences an adverse event that has an emotional impact and/or physical suffering for the healthcare professional. The experiences of the second victim can be measured using the Second Victim Experience and Support Tool, originally developed in English, translated and validated internationally in several languages. A revised version of the tool (Second Victim Experience and Support Tool-Revised) has been published since 2020.
