Article Synopsis
  • - Cellulose nanopapers are being increasingly recognized for various applications, including as reinforcements in nanocomposites, substrates for printed electronics, and filters for water treatment, with mechanical properties being crucial for their effectiveness.
  • - These nanopapers can be made by filtering a nanocellulose suspension and then consolidating it with heat, while previous studies have shown that adjusting the fibril size or modifying the fibrils can enhance mechanical properties.
  • - This research demonstrates that blending different grades of nanocellulose, such as bacterial cellulose and softwood pulp-derived cellulose nanofibrils, can lead to improved mechanical characteristics like stiffness and toughness due to synergistic effects.

Human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) present an attractive target for cell therapy given their wide availability, immunomodulatory properties, and multipotent nature for differentiation into chondrocytes, osteocytes, and adipocytes. With the progression of hMSC clinical studies, there is an increasing demand for development of technologies that enable efficient cell scale-up into clinically relevant quantities. Commercial scale manufacturing of hMSCs will require a large surface area which is not cost effective with available two-dimensional culture vessels.

Purpose: We present the validation data of the French version of a new quality of life questionnaire, specifically developed for use with older adults (>60 years old): the WHOQOL-OLD module. This questionnaire, which contains 24 items in six domains, is a complementary module of the WHOQOL-BREF quality of life questionnaire. It was internationally developed by a World Health Organization (WHO) group.
