To investigate the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of young children in a randomized clinical trial (RCT) of silver diammine fluoride (SDF) and five percent sodium fluoride varnish (NaFV) to manage early childhood caries (ECC). Children younger than 72 months of age with active dentinal caries lesions (ICDAS 5 or 6) in primary teeth received two applications of 38 percent SDF and five percent NaFV as part of an RCT testing three different frequency regimes (one, four, and six months apart). The Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) questionnaire was completed at three study visits.

Background: Due to the weaknesses of the public health system and its low reach, especially in border areas, provision of health services by non-state actors (NSAs) has historically played an important role in Myanmar. NSAs include local and international NGOs and civil society organisations (CSOs), but also Ethnic Health Organisations (EHOs) in the border areas, as well as the private (for profit) sector. This study aims to understand the changing role of NSAs in the shifting political environment of Myanmar between 2010 and 2022, and to explore their contribution to health system resilience.

Article Synopsis
  • - Specimens of a flat, dark brown land planarian were discovered in a North Carolina plant nursery in 2020 and initially misidentified, but further molecular analysis and histological study revealed it to be a new species in the genus *Geoplana*.
  • - This new species has been found in various locations in North Carolina, with potential sightings in Georgia and other southeastern states, indicating it may have invaded the region over a decade ago.
  • - Researchers obtained a complete mitochondrial genome for the species, which shares specific features with other Geoplanidae, including unique start codons in its protein-coding genes and raised questions about the genetic code used for translation in this family.

Background: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is an antimicrobial agent and alternative treatment option that can be used to arrest dental decay. While there is optimism with SDF with regard to caries management, there is no true consensus on the number and frequency of applications for children. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of 38% SDF to arrest early childhood caries (ECC) at three different application regimen intervals.
