Surgical resection of the infected lung with curative intent is the treatment of choice for lung abscesses that are difficult to control with medical treatment alone. However, lung resection is considered difficult in some cases. Herein, we report two cases of destroyed lungs with severe symptoms, for which palliative cavernostomy was performed instead of infected lung resection.

We report a case of cystic atypical carcinoid in the thymus that caused mediastinal bleeding. Atypical thymic carcinoid is a relatively rare disease, and few cases of cystic atypical carcinoid have been reported. There are some reports of anterior mediastinal bleeding caused by thymic tumors or cysts; however, reports on atypical carcinoid-associated bleeding are unavailable.

We report a case of bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax with critical collapse of both lungs in a previously healthy 33-year-old man. During the right-sided bullectomy, washing fluid flowed into the left thoracic cavity. Thereafter, thoracography confirmed a communication with bilateral pleural spaces.

Background: A leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare tumor that mainly originates from the urinary tract and digestive system; however, non-visceral organ-derived patterns are rare. Herein, we report that a vessel-derived pleomorphic LMS (PLMS) originating from the mesenteric vein has a poor prognosis even after curative-intent surgery.
