Milrinone administered before ischemia or just after reperfusion, attenuates myocardial stunning in anesthetized swine.

Purpose: We assessed the dose or timing effect of milrinone administered against myocardial stunning in 37 anesthetized open-chest swine.

Methods: All swine were subjected to 12-min ischemia followed by reperfusion to produce myocardial stunning. Group A (n = 12) received saline in place of milrinone both before and after ischemia.

Left-sided gallbladder is a rare anomaly that is often associated with other abnormal anatomy in the hepatobiliary system. We report our experience of a case of left-sided gallbladder associated with the congenital hypoplasia of the left lobe of the liver. A 71-year-old woman underwent cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis.

A comparative evaluation of transcutaneous and end-tidal measurements of CO2 in thoracic anesthesia.

We performed this study to assess the accuracy of transcutaneous CO(2) (PTCCO(2)) monitoring compared with end-tidal CO(2) (PETCO(2)) in thoracic anesthesia. Twenty-six patients undergoing pneumonectomy with thoracotomy for which a long period of one-lung ventilation (OLV) was required were studied. The lungs were mechanically ventilated in the lateral decubitus position.

[Reappraisal of the clinical usefulness of transabdominal ultrasonography for advanced colon cancer--a study of tumor detection].

We evaluated the detectability of colon cancer by using transabdominal ultrasonography (US). Fifty-three cases of proven advanced colon cancer were examined in this study. Screening by US was carried out in 27 of 53 cases and US was performed in all cases after the definite diagnosis.

[The distribution of solutions in the epidural space].

In 21 patients the distribution within the epidural space of epidurally injected 99mTc-DTPA was assessed. The gamma emissions from the epidural space were measured externally with the patients in supine position by use of a gamma camera. The recordings over the patient's back were stored in digital computer for 60 min.
