Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) are emerging as a novel antibacterial strategy to combat the alarming increase in antimicrobial resistance (AMR). RONS can inhibit bacterial growth through reactions with cellular molecules, compromising vital biological functions and leading to cell death. While their mechanisms of action have been studied, many remain unclear, especially in biologically relevant environments.

Avian photopic curves show energy peaks at different wavelengths than humans, particularly in the ultraviolet, yellow, and red range. Therefore, an illumination system with a spectrum tailored for laying hens, encompassing the entire visible spectrum, can enhance performance and welfare. The primary contribution of this study was the development of two Spectral Power Distributions (SPDs) specifically designed for laying hens, with different spectral proportions (S1 and S2), and the evaluation of their effects on productive performance, egg quality, and hormonal levels, compared to conventional white lighting at 3000 K (C).

The extraction of hydroxycinnamic acids (HCADs) is a strategy for lignocellulosic biomass valorization due to their high value-added nature and the possibility of application as flavoring and antioxidants. This study proposes correlations between the composition and taxonomy of 28 globally available agro-industrial feedstocks with the production of HCADs using chemometric tools. Principal component analysis indicated strong correlations between ferulic acid release and hemicellulose type and content, especially in grass biomasses.

Objectives: To summarize the published evidence in the literature on the use of intravenous immunoglobulin in gastrointestinal tract involvement in systemic sclerosis patients and report the experience of our department.

Methods: A systematic literature review was performed; and a literature search was conducted in MEDLINE and Embase until 1/5/2024, using the participants, intervention, comparator and outcomes framework. Only full-text articles involving systemic sclerosis adults, submitted to intravenous immunoglobulin (at least one administration) to treat primary gastrointestinal tract manifestations.
